Join our family of accredited arboreta.
The Newport Tree Conservancy welcomes private property owners to join the growing ranks of professionally recognized Newport arboreta. The Arbnet Arboretum Accreditation Program recognizes arboreta worldwide who have met specific standards of professional practice in the field.
Level I accreditation requires:
25 or more species or cultivars of trees and woody plants,
an arboretum steering committee, and
a public element that includes at least one public event per year.
The Conservancy can assist throughout the application process by:
surveying and mapping your tree and woody plant collection,
helping outline your Arboretum Plan (your overarching theme or goals for your arboretum)
working with you to complete your application, and
acting as your official steering committee.
Our Living Collections Committee offers a free annual visit by an arborist or horticulturist. In addition, participating properties can join our family of arboreta in opening their doors for a public tour during Newport Arboretum Week or other times of the year. We encourage you to take advantage of the resources available through your citywide arboretum, including such help as tree identification, tree surveys, and arboretum tree tags.
